Ventura, CA– The Oaks kicked off the final week of June with two solid wins at “Sparky” Anderson Field, downing the Long Beach Legends 5-0 and the Riptide 12-9. Thereafter, the Oaks headed to Ventura College on Tuesday to face the Ventura Halos. The score was tied heading into the top of the 10th inning when Brandon Lewis (La Pierce JC) hit a solo home run over the left-field wall to give the Oaks a 5-4 lead, which they held onto to win.
After the day off on Wednesday, the Oaks opened a three-game series again the Pacific Union Financial Capitalist, a team composed of high school graduates headed to some of the top schools in the country.
The Puf Caps won 7-3 in game one after exploding for five runs in the third innings and totaling 12 at-bats in the innings. The Oaks could only muster seven hits on the day and left a total of nine runners on base.
Conejo edged out a 4-2 victory in game two. The score was tied at one apiece when Oaks star outfielder Milo Beam (Purdue) hit a 3-run shot over the right field wall to give the Oaks a 4-1 lead that they held onto for the victory.
Game three saw a total of 24 hits, 17 by the Puf Caps and seven by the Oaks. Not only did the Puf Caps explode for 16 runs in the game, but they also left 16 runners on base. The Oaks could only muster three runs of their own on two home runs, one by Lewis and the other by Grant Mayeaux (San Diego State). Head Coach David Soliz threw six pitchers, who collectively walked 15 batters, a season high.
The Oaks ended their week in Ventura against the Halos. The Halos struck first in the bottom of the second inning, plating three runs. The Oaks responded for one of their own in the top of the 5th, but quickly allowed four runs in the 6th and one in the 7th to trail 8-1 heading into the top of the 8th inning. Jassen Oliver (CSU-Bakersfield) lead off with a solo home run. The Oaks saw one more run cross the plate in the inning when D.J Miller (Ole Miss) scored on a RBI by Mayeaux.
Down 8-3 in the top of the 9th, The Oaks hit safely four consecutive times and ended up scoring four runs in the innings, but left the tying run on first base before Mayeaux flew out to end the game. The Halos won 8-7.
Player of the Week: Milo Beam (Purdue) is awarded the Oaks Player of the Week. In five games, Beam batted .384 with 1 home run, 5 RBI, 4 runs, 1 walk, and 2 stolen bases.
