Thousand Oaks, CA– In a game that was ultimately decided in the ninth inning, the Oaks struggled to generate enough offense down the stretch and lost to the Academy Barons 4-2.
The Oaks trailed the Barons 2-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth before Max Weinstein (Cal Lutheran) roped a ball deep into center field for a two-out RBI double that sent Milo Beam (Purdue) in to score the tying run. The celebrating would be short-lived, however, as the Barons responded with two runs of their own in the top of the ninth that put them ahead for good. The Oaks went down one-two-three to close the game and the rest was history.
The Oaks displayed a lackluster offensive performance, barely managing to muster up two runs on with a season-low six hits. Outside of Weinstein, Beam was the only other Oaks batter to contribute on the offensive end with an RBI-double and a run scored.
Kenny Johnson (CSU Bakersfield) got the start for the Oaks for the third time this season and went five innings strong. He sent four Barons batters packing but surrendered seven hits, two walks, and two runs, both of which were the only runs he’d given up the entire season.
The Oaks will look to redeem themselves on Thursday when they head to Compton to take on the Barons at 7:00 P.M. PT. Watch live on oaksbaseball.org and simulcast on Youtube.
